Cosa significa crescere a Cologna?

ENGLISH VERSION
Are there any particular artists that have really stood out for you over your career and inspired you to take the road you have musically?
There are so many artists who influenced and inspired us, but if we are forced to choose one of them, it is Stephan Bodzin. We really like his intuition for melodies and sounds, since his first album „Liebe ist“ we can call ourselves Bodzin-fans. His unique live shows, solo or with Marc Romboy, inspired us to do a live act by our own.
Your career involves you travelling a lot – do you find the world around you and the different experiences on tour inspiring, or distracting?
Both. It is really inspiring to meet new people and see different places. We always try to be very open minded, eat local food and find a connection to people, promoters and other artists. On the other side sometimes the travel itself is a bit distracting: it’s all about waiting, lack of sleep and the fear of missing a connection flight/train/ride. And mostly we don’t have the time to explore the city we play at. But at the end of the day it’s always more inspiring than distracting.
What was it like growing up in Cologne? Has music always been part of your life and how did you meet each other?
We actually didn’t grow up in Cologne. Branko grew up in the Ruhr Area and Niklas grew up in Bonn (next to Cologne). We both got in contact with electronic music in young age. From big raves like Mayday to small club parties in our hometown, we really tried to get as much musical input as possible. As a result we got into the DJ scene quite early.
We met in 2014 at a Dj-Contest Niklas’ was hosting as a promoter. Branko took part with his solo liveact and won the contest. When we first met we immediately noticed a very strong personal and musical connection, so we decided to go to the studio and have some fun. This was the moment when Hidden Empire was born. Beside the constantly growing musical success we really became close friends.
Do you remember your first party in Italy?
Yes, very well. We had a bumpy start in Italy. Our first gig should take place at the Gate Clubbing in Corridonia, unfortunately the performance had to be cancelled due to a snow storm right before the show. Luckily, there was a replacement date shortly afterwards. This time it was very good and we had a lot of fun. It was very enjoyable to meet the Italian crowd. We felt extremely welcome, all people were very nice and totally open minded. From the promotor to the tour manager, everyone was super nice. We are looking forward to the next time in Italy.
What’s been your favourite gig so far?
At the end of 2016 we played for Oliver Koletzki at his party A Tribe called Kotori at Kosmonaut, Berlin. We played an one hour liveset at 2 a.m before Oliver Koletzki and Yetti Meißner. And after them a closing Dj-Set till 10 o´Clock in the morning. It was a crazy night and morning, with an amazing crowd, this was definitely one for the books.
Did you ever sneak in to clubs when you were younger? Have you seen this happen while touring?
Niklas once stepped into a club at the age of 17. He was a really big fan of the UK DJ Jimpster who played at his hometown, so he sneaked into to club the see/hear him.
Once in a while we get requests from young fans who want to see us at the club but aren’t old enough, and they ask us for guest list so they don’t have to show their ID at the door.
Tell us about your top 3 memorable moments last year…
– Our first EP on Stil Vor Talent
– The great success of our Stil Vor Talent Live-Session Video
– Our gig at Kosmonaut “A Tribe called Kotori”
What can we expect from you in the coming months?
We are really working hard in the studio to push things forward. We constantly try to improve our performance and productions.
In the next month we are playing many gigs in Germany, some international gigs and at a few nice festivals.
Our current release is a split EP on Stil vor Talent and in April we will release an full EP on Reinier Zonnefelds brandnew label “Filth on Acid”.
Besides that there are many remixes in the pipeline for Marc de Pulse, Raphael Cerato and many more.
And a few other releases we are also really looking forward too, but we can’t tell more about it yet .
What tracks you play can be described as your signature sound?
The sound we play can be described as Melodic Techno. The Song that reflects our current sound most is our track Jaws, released on Traum Schallplatten. It has a strong melody and pushing forward drums and groove.
